Description
Greif Z.B2 Armored Fighting Vehicle
Designed for use with minis in the "heroic" or 28mm scale, primarily as an IFV, though it can stand in as a tank in a pinch.
Updated 4/6/25 - check the bottom section for condensed list of changes and additions
"A variant of a common type of armored transport, the Grief ZB is a younger entry on its metaphorical evolutionary branch. It features a mostly welded hull with improved armor, a larger improved turret and much more accessible machinery than its predecessor models, though the required expertise and comparative expense of production has allowed its precursors to remain relevant. Regardless, it is slowly gaining a larger presence across it's home region as time moves on."
Meant for casual war-gamers out there who just need a transport or light tank quick and cheap. Hull prints in one piece on an FDM machine. I personally print the whole thing out in FDM, but the turret, applique armor, side boxes and weapons could all be printed in resin, though the longevity of the snap joints may not be the best. Main weapons should, if printed in FDM, be printed on their sides for mechanical strength, and are best inserted or removed at 0 degrees elevation. Hull and turret weapons are snap-fit; be careful when putting them in as a good deal of force may be needed when first fitting them in.
For the hull weapon the Greif has the option of either an automatic rocket gun or a flame-thrower.
The sides of the hull has evenly spaced mount points for side skirts or side boxes and external fuel tanks. Side skirts come in two sizes: Full (fits on either side) and partial (with a separate left and right model). Both size skirts also come with a boltless version. For a "perforated" or "slat" armor skirt, you can add a height range modifier when slicing the "boltless" variants (assuming the mount points are on the buildplate) of 2mm - 3.7mm. Set bottom and top layers to '0' and perimeters to '4', and infill settings can be set to whatever pattern and density you want. Included is a .3mf example.
For the turret the weapon options are:
The Turret has mounting points for a rear bustle and two types of applique armor. The 4 piece system features two rear plates and two front plates. The front plates are designed to fit around and grip the turret's coincidence rangefinder.
The 2 piece 'T29' applique turret armor uses the same rear mount points as the 4 plate system, but wrap around the turret, meaning only one piece is used per side. They also provide the turret with both a mounting point for a Pintle HMG and a rail for a single-use ATGM. The HMG has a pintle-arm that mounts tightly on the right side piece, and the rail is on the left side piece.
There are a Type 1 and Type 2 Bustle; Type 2 is slightly larger, and has a mounting point on it's side for an additional “Trident” radio antenna.
Example shown printed using various PLA at 15% infill and .2mm layer height; pictured with some 28mm soldiers for scale.
