In general you need heat to dry filament. Only silica gel etc. is not enough to move the moisture out of your filament.
If you don't have a dryer like me, you can use your print bed for drying. You can use a small box for keeping the heat on your filament, but don't forget some holes next to the bottom and on the top to ensure a small air flow.
I made some GCODEs for the most common filaments with different print bed temperatures for drying filaments 6 hours straight. Prusa printers have a safety feature with switches off your print bed heating after 30 minutes preheat (and no print). Here the GCODEs are like “fake prints” to unlock the preheating for a longer amount of time, 6 hours this scenario.
Be aware that the GCODEs are really simple, so they are not officially supported by any printer. Because of that, they are summarized in a .zip file for uploading on printables. But they should work on the most of the printers which have a z axis (height) with minimum 200mm.
DO NOT USE THE GCODE marked as “DUMMY”. I had to upload some “official by slicer generated” GCODE to be able to save and publish “this model”. For drying use the simple GCODEs from the .zip file.
BE AWARE:
The GCODE homes the printer at first and moves the printhead to Z 200mm (in height). So wait and place your filament and box only after that is done.
THIS IS ON YOUR OWN RISK!
I recommend to store the filament in some dry box when drying / printing is done, but you can reuse the GCODE for drying so often as you want.
