Functional Washers for PETG/ASA – Various Sizes – LR Basics

Description
This is my design of fully functional washers with built-in structural support. I created them for the FFF process to be printed using PETG or ASA material. Printed with the correct settings and materials, these washers are quite strong and can be used to spread the pressure of a screw head/nut evenly.
How to Print the Washers
I created an example project LR2206 Various Sizes Print.3mf
for Prusa Slicer, where all required settings are made. If you need to create your own setup, the following table lists all requirements:
Nozzle Size: | 0.4mm |
Layer Height: | 0.2mm |
Filament Materials: | PETG or ASA |
Perimeters: | >10 perimeters (important!) This large amount of perimeters is required to force the slicer to create the correct filament line orientations in the print. |
Prusa Slicer Profile: | “0.2mm Quality” |
Extra settings: |

Do not print with PLA: These washers, printed with PLA will not be functional. The material is too brittle and the structural optimization will create the exact opposite effect.
Dimensions and Tolerances
The file name and part number for the washers has the following format:
LR2206-<thickness>-<inner diameter>-<outer diameter>.3mf
Thickness
The thickness is specified in 1/10 of millimetres. Therefore, the value 10
stands for one millimetre and 22
for 2.2mm.
Inner Diameter
The inner diameter is specified with the metric thread size which fits into the given washer. Therefore, the value M3
is the right washer for an M3 screw. There is a table at the end of this description will the detailed sizes for all washers.
Outer Diameter
The outer diameter is specified in millimetres. This value is the maximum outer diameter. The actual size is equal or slightly smaller, to create the correct print profile.
About the Design
The weakest points in 3d printed parts are the print line to print line bindings. If a washer is printed without optimization, there is a shearing force matching the printed rings of lines.
By adding small channels, lines perpendicular to the ring are printed, binding these rings in a much stronger way. The shearing force is stopped at these layers and spread to all rings, preventing the inner sections from breaking loose.
