Description

After seeing the 100Hex project, I decided to create a wall light that was compatible with it.  It is designed to hold an LED light strip to make it easy to add the lights.  All components are designed to be press fit.  The main hex module is designed to have a 100Hex piece press fit into the first inlay, then a diffuser press fit behind it.

NOTE:  If you are using an exposed LED light strip, I HIGHLY recommend you wrap electrical tape or another insulator around the LED light strip when running it between the hexes where they could touch.  During the design/testing process, an exposed part of the strip touched itself and burned out a section of the lights. Easiest solution is to purchase a sealed or outdoor rated LED light strip.

Main components:

  • 100HexLightHolder_WithPins.stl - This is the main body of the hex module.  The “WithPins” are pins in the corner to help hold the LED light strip in place.

  • 100HexLightHolder_NoPins.stl - This is the main body of a hex module without the pins.  If you aren't going to use an LED light strip, you probably don't need the pins.

  • 100HexLightHolder_Diffuser.stl - This is to diffuse the LED lights, this should be printed in white or natural color filament.

  • 100HexLightHolder_Bowtie.stl - This is a bowtie to allow you to connect the units together.  I would suggest using two bowties on each connection and run the LED strip through the middle, but I've found that the connection is pretty solid, so you might be able to get away with just a bowtie in the middle and using the other two spots to pass the LED strip through.

  • 100HexLightHolder_End_Cap.stl - This is to cover the outside edge of your hex modules so they won't have exposed holes.

  • 100HexLightHolder_WallMount.stl - a simple hook for hanging it on the wall.

  • 100Hex_Dragon.stl - A sample 100Hex item.
