Functional Corner Brackets for PETG/ASA - LR Basics

December 11, 2024
Description
This is my design of fully functional corner brackets. I created them especially for the FFF process to be printed using PETG or ASA material.
If these corner brackets are printed with the correct settings and materials, they can withstand high forces.
How to Print the Angle Brackets
Print the angle brackets in the orientation shown below:
I created an example project LR2207-060-40 Print.3mf
for Prusa Slicer, where all required settings are made. If you need to create your own setup, check out the following table:
Nozzle Size: | 0.4mm, 0.6mm or 0.8mm |
Layer Height: | 0.2mm for 0.4mm nozzle 0.3mm for 0.6mm nozzle 0.4mm for 0.8mm nozzle |
Filament Materials: | PETG or ASA |
Perimeters: | 3 perimeters (important!) |
Prusa Slicer Profile: | “0.2mm Quality” |
Extra settings: |
|
Not recommended for PLA: Prints with PLA tend to deform over time, also they are much more brittle and may break.
Dimensions
The part number and file name have the following format:
LR2207-<length>-<screw hole>.3mf
Length
Length is the maximum side length of the bracket. The actual length is about 1-2mm shorter than the declared length.
Screw Hole Diameter
The second number is the screw hole diameter in 1/10 mm steps. Therefore, the value 30
means 3mm. The actual size of the screw holes in the model is about 0.5mm larger than specified, but even with this large tolerance, it may be smaller than the specified size after printing.
How to Use the Corner Bracket
In contrary to metal brackets, it is important to spread the pressure from the screw head equally to the 3d printed part. So, please follow the recommendations below to make the best use of this part.
- Always use screws with lens, flat or round heads.
- Do not use countersink screws.
- Always put a metal washer under the screw.
- Use a washer that ideally fills as much of the flat area as possible.
- Put screws in every hole of the bracket, do not leave one open.
- Do not stress the bracket on bending!
