English and Spanish Alphabet with Embedded Magnets

I provided each letter individually as an .stl, and also the .3mf file with the entire alphabet fit onto a single plate AND a pause at the right location for inserting the magnets. Check with your printer and settings to make sure the pause is at the right place for you.

Why are the magnets embedded?

Embedding magnets within a 3D-printed toy is a crucial safety measure, especially when considering regulations set by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC). Here's why embedding magnets enhances safety:

• Choking Hazard Prevention: Loose or small magnets pose significant choking risks to children. If ingested, these magnets can attract each other through intestinal walls, leading to serious injuries or even death. The CPSC has established mandatory safety standards for magnets to address these hazards.
• Compliance with Safety Standards: The CPSC's guidelines, as outlined in ASTM F963, specify that toys intended for children under 14 must not contain hazardous magnets. Embedding magnets ensures they are not accessible, aligning with these safety requirements.
• Use and Abuse Testing: The CPSC recommends subjecting toys to use and abuse testing to simulate real-life scenarios. Embedded magnets are less likely to become dislodged during such tests, ensuring the toy's safety and durability.

Which magnets to use:

• I used these high-strength N52 magnets, and they fit perfectly into the holes: 6mm X 3mm N52 neodymium magnets round discs 1/4in x 1/8in. I print two layers on the bottom before the magnet hole starts, so the stronger N52 magnets ensure a good hold.

How to pause the print and insert magnets

I'm using a Bambu X1 Carbon and the Bambu Studio slicer. Slice the plate, go to where the first bridge layer covers the hole, right-click the slider bar, and select Add Pause. Then, re-slice the plate. It will pause before printing that layer, which allows you to insert the magnets.

Use a reference magnet or magnet insertion tool to ensure the polarity is facing the same way throughout the entire set.
