Description
My brother has a 1984 Alfa Romeo Spider which had a damage heater switch cover. Using some pictures and the damaged piece we were able to make a replacement part which can be made entirely with a 3D printer or can be made in combination with a laser cutter.
3D Printed Only
AlphaRomeoSpider_HeaterSwitchCover_Blank - A blank plate which can be printed and then the design painted on
AlphaRomeoSpider_HeaterSwitchCover_Sunken - A plate which has the symbols recessed into the part, may be useful for color changing printers or filling with a colored resin/enamel
AlphaRomeoSpider_HeaterSwitchCover_Rasied - A plate which has the symbols raised above the main plate, may be useful for color swap at layer height printing
AlphaRomeoSpider_HeaterSwitchCover_TopCap - If your car does not have the light above the heater levers you will also need this part
Laser Cut and 3D Printed
Use either dxf with a laser cutter, one is labeled and one is blank. I had these made by SendCutSend in 304 Series Stainless Steel 0.1" (2.5mm). You should also be able to have them cut in 0.074" (1.9mm) if you wanted thinner parts.
Unfortunately the part is too small for SendCutSend to do any finishing work but other services may offer powder coating/anodizing/deburring/etc. If you do anything with a coating it is possible that your parts will need some filing in certain areas as the coating will add thickness.
You will need a 3D printed bottom cap (sized to either the 2.5 or 2mm stainless part and then the optional top cap if your car does not have the light above the levers.
Which ever variant you use I would advise printing the parts in a heat resistant material such as ABS or ASA, PETG may be ok depending on your locale. I printed my parts completely solid, this is probably not needed for the end caps but will be needed for the cover plate portions.
Install with the original hardware from the car.
I don't have this car so my ability to do any fit testing for these parts. If you find something isn't fitting correctly and know what dimension you want adjusted I'm happy to do that.
