Intro Notes: This was designed to be printed in PETG or other outdoor safe filaments. Requires disassembly of the radio to install. Pictures show SMA_Male_Adapter_V3 on an 895. This could have adverse effects on your radio if used or done improperly. Please proceed with caution.
Print Parameters: 0.4mm Nozzle, 100% Infill, 0.2mm Layer Height, 2 Shell layers. No supports required.
Installation:
- Remove the rear clip, battery cover, and batteries.
- There are 5 screws holding the plastic shell together, 3 in the battery compartment, 2 are in the top of the back exterior. The right most screw on the exterior is a different size than the rest. Remove all 5 screws.
- Gently pry up on the rear half of the shell and remove the port cover if needed. There is a plastic clip on the top part of the shell. There are two wires soldered to a motor on the rear shell and two wires soldered to a speaker on the front shell. You will need to completely remove the back/front shell to install the adapter.
- De-solder and remove the original antenna.
- Press the SMA connector into the adapter, trim the end of the tube to fit.
- Solder the center pin to the antenna pad, and the case to ground.
- Install the adapter and connector assembly, note the position of the notches.
- Install the 5 screws (noting the different screw in the upper right), batteries, battery cover, and rear clip.
Other Notes:
I've also added some models to allow you to convert the original integrated antenna to an SMA female connector. They're not fancy or nice, but might be useful if you want to use the original antenna again without converting back to connector-less.
