Description
PSA for FDM use the split version to avoid tricky supports.
Here is an Easter themed Mimic DND / TTRPG miniature. Imagine a scenario where your party, hungry, lost for days in a precarious dungeon rounds a corner like many before and they find a faintly lit large basket which appears to be overflowing with oversized colourful eggs. The sound of their stomachs growling seem to echo back to them through the endless winding corridors.
I have this sized at 17mm closed and about 28mm open as the base size. Closed this would be a very large (3ft tall ++) basket but it should be suspicious to find a weird little basket in a dungeon. At very least it could be used as peculiar scatter (like my crate full of toads).
For printing there are "split" variants which will make it easier to remove supports on FDM (maybe resin too!). You can leave these as is and let the supports do their work. I tried flipping the bottom over and ended up with support scarring on the tongue and bottom of the mouth which isn't optimal. I printed this at 17mm and the 2x version and am pretty happy with the results. As usual be careful when removing supports because it can pull out small things like the basket handle and teeth - some good snips or a hobby knife work wonders BUT be extremely careful since this mimic's teeth are pretty sharp and it will bite!
I used AI to generate the basket in this model and then did the rest of the post processing, sculpting etc... myself. The mimic internals are based on my other mimics but I made a round style for this one. For more info on this checkout my (How to use AI to create a 3d Model) for the process I follow and video. I'm also working on creating 1000 free dnd miniatures using AI tools and blender and documenting my progress on patreon if you'd like to follow along: https://www.patreon.com/c/Adamnant
Good luck, happy printing!
