🧁 Making Homemade Silicone Molds

This is a simple guide showing how I made my own silicone molds for use with Jesmonite. It's a fun and easy way to create custom casting molds – in this case, for muffins!

🛠 1. Designing and Printing the Support Shell

I started by designing a support shell that holds the silicone mold in place during casting.

🧼 2. Preparing the Silicone

I used a sanitary silicone from Biltema:

I squeezed about half a cartridge into a bowl of water with a generous amount of dish soap.
The soap works as a release agent and makes the silicone easier to handle without sticking to your hands. It also helps prevent air bubbles on the surface.
The water cools the silicone slightly, making it easier to shape.

✋ 3. Molding and Curing

Once the silicone was well mixed, I placed it into the support shell and pressed my plaster muffin firmly into the center.

To make demolding easier, I applied a thin layer of petroleum jelly (Vaseline) to the object.
I made sure to press the silicone tightly around the edges and kept the bottom slightly free, so it would be easier to remove once cured.

👉 I let the silicone cure for 48 hours before removing the muffin. This resulted in a flexible and durable mold, ready to use.

✅ Ready for Casting

The mold is now ready – I use Jesmonite, which works really well with silicone.
The result is a cast muffin that's easy to decorate with paint, glitter, or other creative touches 🖌✨
