Description
I recently purchased the Logan 450-1 Mat Cutter, and generally speaking it's really great. However they apparently decided (for marketing reasons?) to reduce its convenience, providing only a small and poorly placed edge guide. This makes it difficult to square up your workpiece, particularly when cutting larger sheets.
This newly designed adjustable 3d-printed part fixes the problem, making the 450-1 more comparable with some of their more expensive models. I have uploaded a stiffer version, see files.
Print in PLA, with 50% or higher infill. When slicing, orient the part such that it lays down on the bed, rather than having the leg stick up in the air (makes it stronger). Attach to your 450-1 with thread cutting screws. When installing, locate this guide flush or slightly above the bottom of the base, pre-aligning it using a large piece of mat board referenced to the existing small edge guide.
I find it works well to use the slots in the 3d printed part to locate the two screw holes. Pre-drill pilot holes in the base centered on each slot before installing the screws. Pre-drilling will help avoid splitting the base of your cutter, it's only particle board after all.
Once installed you'll find it much easier to square your stock when setting up.
Of course this might void your warranty, and I can't take responsibility if you somehow damage your unit.
