Prusa XL Side Filament Mod for 5mm OD/3mm ID PTFE tube

This is to complement the the awesome 5mm OD/3mm ID PTFE Bowden tube mod from @RickJ19Zeta8_48734.

It is a remix of the excellent remix that @INVESTEGATE did of the brilliant magnetic filament sensor mod from @tg73, which stopped the magnets being exposed and gave them a ‘stock’ look. The reality is, this is how the XL filament sensors should have been done in the first place.

I wanted to be able to use P5-M5 push lock fittings as well as reuse the original P3-M5 fittings.

Printing

Pre-sliced multicolour file is provided. Load it up to check the settings, but basically:

• 0.4 nozzle
• 0.2 layer height
• 4 perimeters
• 6 top and bottom layers

Assembly

I strongly recommend using a countersink bit in a drill to chamfer the push lock fittings. This stops the tip of the filament trying to hang up on the flat end of the push-lock fitting before it enters the Bowden tube.

      

Follow the instructions from @tg73 for getting the springs out of the stock filament sensors.

Then follow the instructions from @INVESTIGATE for assembling the magnetic filament sensors.

Install the P5-M5 push-lock fittings into the outlet side of the filament sensor and the original push-lock fitting from the stock filament sensor mount into the the inlet side of the new mount and re-use the small pieces of the original PTFE in them.
