Description
Manually flipping the light switch when climbing into the attic was really eating into my free time so I made this housing for an Aqara door/window switch that slots into a Werner AH2210 (maybe others but I have not tried) attic ladder and lets you trigger whatever you would like when the ladder is pulled down or put away. In my case, I used it to trigger an automation in Home Assistant to turn on the Sonoff S31 outlet (flashed with ESPhome…local FTW) that my attic lights are plugged into but you could have it trigger to turn on/off a smart bulb, wall switch, send an "I'm in the attic" text to your family, etc. There is also a file for a jig for drilling a single small hole in the ladder to secure the housing with an M3x10 button head screw. I printed it all in PLA with 3 walls, 4 tops/bottoms and 10-20% infill. A single M3x5x4 heat set insert ("Voron" insert) is required. You also need a thin magnet to attach to the upper portion of the ladders hinge to trigger to “close” the sensor. I used a 10x2mm that I got on Amazon and attached it with a dot of CA glue that you can see in the last picture.
