Notable deviations from the source material
- The original is asymmetric. Plex in the store pictures is not 3d modeled, but drawn by an artist. Asymmetry provides a more balanced appearing weight. This is especially prominent on the darkened ‘digital' looking lines, and the crossbar of the X.
- Its 3D! Most source material has shadows indicating that the X is embossed. However, it also shows them neatly stacked very high, with no apparent gap from said embossing. This is fine in the drawn artwork, because it can ignore physics. I chose to create a matching recess.
Slicer Configuration
- 0.4mm nozzle with 0.2mm layer height.
- I used grid supports to hold up the inside of the recess. I had a heck of a time getting bridging to work well with silk filaments, so I took this shortcut.
- I found that the default in Prusa slicer of 0.1mm passes resulted in discolored sections resulting from heat buildup. Increasing the pass width to 0.2mm resolved this.
- I turned on single perimeter on first/last layer.
- I enabled ‘external perimeters first’, since there are no overhangs.
Filaments Used
- eSUN Silk Copper PLA https://a.co/d/6iwIgMR
- ELEGOO PLA+ White https://a.co/d/fat7D7U
The copper is a bit redder than the source material. If I was to do it again, I would probably buy a ‘yellow’ or ‘gold’ silk or metallic filament.

Version 1.1
Added a chamfer around the edges, and deepened the groves.
