Description
This design is for mounting a webcam outside the printer and at some distance, for an overall view of how a print is going. The mount is designed around the Logitech C9xx webcams (c920, c922, c925, c930), but can likely be used with other webcams that mount with a single standard camera bolt.
This is actually a really useful way to mount a webcam inside a tent enclosure. I like it better than the various ones I've used (and designed) that mount on the printer. I'm surprised this model hasn't gotten more response… If your printer is inside a tent enclosure, I strongly recommend using this for your webcam.
___
Ideally you would want one camera monitoring what the nozzle is doing and another to view the entire printer bed while the printer is printing. This model is for the camera monitoring the full bed. If your printer is enclosed in a tent, the furthest the cam can be is on the wall of the tent, so this locates the webcam there. A tent enclosure wall is thin enough that two plates with embedded rare earth magnets can clamp to either side of the fabric for mounting a webcam. This method allows maximum freedom for webcam placement, and the webcam can mount at either the top or the bottom of the mount plate. I mounted mine at top of the mount and placed the mount to the right side of the door flap about half way to the top to get the entire bed into the view.
Parts Needed
Printing and assembly
In order to keep the surfaces where the magnets will mount as flat as possible, print these parts in the orientation as provided, using organic supports. For printing the clamping plates, use 4 outer walls and 25% infill for strength.
Printing these is pretty easy. The only complication is handling the magnets! They want to stick to each other fiercely, and it is hard to keep them oriented when they are apart. Here's a trick:
Wipe off any glue that might interfere with the magnets clamping, then let the glue harden.
