Description
Combining two crafts: 3D printing and leathercraft. With these stamps, a debossed effect can be created in vegtan leather. But with the handle, you can use the same plates with an ink-pad.
The plates can be printed without support, face up. The small plate has a base of 30x15x2mm and the large plate of 30x30x2mm.
Using 3D printing in combination with leather opens a whole world of creative possibilities. You can make all kinds of creative designs on the stamps, without ordering expensive metal ones. Yes, the durability is less, but if you only need a few custom leather pieces, a cheap 3D printed stamp wins from an expensive metal one.
Stamping in leather requires a lot of force, so these stamps should be used with a press or vice. Make sure to add a larger piece of wood or metal between the plate (without handle) and the leather to distribute the force evenly. Make sure the leather is wet to maximize the stamping effect.
With the handle, these stamps can also be used in combination with an inkpad. Make sure to print the handle lying down, with supports, to get the best fit possible.
Both the 30x15mm and the 30x30mm plates can then be slotted in. The slot is 1mm less wide as the 30x15mm plates, so they stick out a small amount. This makes it easier to remove them. The first few times, the plates will be a bit tricky to put in and out, but it will get better if you use it a few times.
Printing the plates in PLA and using them with an ink-pad won't work as well on all surfaces. As you can see on the pictures: the softer the surface, the better the ink will be visible (better on cloth and worse on paper). Use a soft surface to stamp on, or print the design with a more flexible type of plastic. I only have PLA, so won't be able to test out other materials.
Two blank plates are added so you can use a slicer to add a custom .svg design to these plates. The height of the design (.svg) should be around 1.5mm. Due to the slanted sides, the design-area is a around 27.5mm wide by 15mm / 30mm high.
These are the first few designs, I'll surely make many more. :-) Let me know if you would like a specific stamp, and maybe I'll design it. Or feel free to remix the blank plates.
Ps. Some of the pictures have an old version of the plates (without the cutout), but all the stl-files are up to date.
👍Let me know what you think of this model, and how you think I can extend or improve it. I’m curious in your makes and remixes!
