Description
I was recently tutoring in organic chemistry and thought that for simpler structures, CPK models are the best option for young students to get a real sense of how the molecules behave and look like. After discovering the well-designed kit by Harfigger on Thingiverse, I immediately began printing and assembling larger molecules. I found that scaling down the models to 70% of their original size still resulted in sufficiently robust structures while significantly saving time and filament.
All the bonds are rotatable, except for the double bond, just like in real molecules. Depending on how you connect the double bond, you end up with either elaidic acid or oleic acid.
Since I had already done the work of counting and sorting the parts, I thought I might as well share my print plates here. If you like this model, check out Harfiggers kits and expansion sets on Thingiverse. Don't forget to scale them down to fit this model.
