Description

This is a printable LM8UU equivalent bearing. It is used in place of a conventional steel LM8UU. I designed it so that it can be used as a replacement for Ultimaker style sintered-brass bushings.

This is also me trying to place a concept of using the easily available 4mm ptfe tube as bearing surfaces in Repraps.

Looking forward to suggestions and remixes!

This is also one of my first attempts at parametric design. There could be a lot of errors. Do point it out.

Print it with any RepRap equivalent printer

Post-Printing

Cutting the 4x2mm PTFE tube

  • Cut a 28mm length of 4mm PTFE tubing (2mm internal dia). The same used for 1.75mm bowden extruder.
  • use a xacto knife or modelling blade to cut the PTFE tube longitudinally along the center. (careful not to cut your self) I am planning on building a small printable tool with a blade attached to do this accurately and safely.

Inserting the 'half-tube' into the bearing case

There are helical grooves in the casing.
Push the cut tube pieces into the grooves.
You will need to take care that the PTFE piece does not bend outside the casing.
A little persuasion and care will do the job.

Reaming and sanding if required

After the tube-pieces are pushed in, you might need to further push the tubes into the grooves using some tool.
Usually a (closed) nose-tip pliers works great.
You could also file it down with a fine grit round merchant file.
