Description
Pressing in CV axle seals can be challenging and if not pressed to the right depth or pressed in crooked, they will leak. Volvo used to make a special tool (9995541 or 999 5541), but it is hard to get and if you can get it, it's very expensive.
I took measurements on the actual gearbox to reverse engineer the dimensions of the tool, since I did not have one either. This tool will press in the cam seal to the right depth and ensure it sits straight.
Flush: The seal has to be installed flush with the housing according to the official instructions. This is achieved with this variant
+1mm: If there is an excessive wear groove in the CV axle, you can drive the seal in a bit deeper to avoid that groove.
+2mm: Even deeper than the +1mm version.
If you use the 3D printed punch, be aware that some plastic polymers tend to shatter when they are hit with a hammer. Be careful and wear eye protection.
I used PLA, other polymers will probably work as well (as long as they are hard)
≥50% Infill for maximum strength
≥3 perimeters recommended
M6x50 DIN 912 bolt
When using printed/plastic tools for pressing, there is the possibility that they will shatter or break etc. Be responsible when using the tool and wear appropriate protection. I'm not responsible for any damage or injuries.
Please consider liking and posting a make if you find this useful 🙂
It took quite a lot of time to make this tool, so if you're a tool company and want to make a fortune with the tools, perhaps send me some money for filament 😅
