Description
The car brand “Mercury” was made by Ford. The pickup trucks with the brand “Mercury” were made for Canada. They had the letters “MERCURY” on the front of the hood. I have focused on the style of the letters of pickup trucks of 1968, because most online photos are from pickup trucks of 1968.
The source of the design is a OpenSCAD script and is also included.
OpenSCAD is free software: https://openscad.org/
This script requires at least a 2025 version of OpenSCAD with all the features turned on and by using “Manifold” in the advanced settings.
The current script makes the letters with a 3D shape that differs from the original in a number of places. They only look the same at first glance. The script can also generate the letters in 2D for a svg file, to be used as a starting point to design a better 3D shape.
This is my third 3D design that is related to Ford. The other two are the Edsel logo and the vintage F-350 emblem.
Because this is a (vintage) letter style of a car brand, it is only for personal use. I did make the script myself, but the design belongs to the Ford Motor Company.
I tried to approximate the original design and it should be seen as fan art.
