Description

This is Nightblood, the awakened sword from Brandon Sanderson's Cosmere series, ready to destroy evil! This version is fully 53" long from pommel to tip!

--------------

Warning: the tolerance between the blade and the scabbard is only a few mm. It's small enough that if the blade and scabbard are not assembled perfectly straight (like, near-impossible-in-the-real-world straight) that the blade will rub up against the inside and scrape some paint off the blade if you choose to paint it. I unfortunately did not leave enough room to accommodate a layer of padding material. Hopefully in the next version.

--------------

I chose to finish mine using a black gloss base coat and a SpazStix orange/purple/teal color shifting top coat as an ode to Nightblood's color-centric Nalthian origins.  The handle is wrapped in black lizard skin from Tandy Leather, which really makes it feel …. odd.

The scabbard I finished in DesignMaster Super Silver, which gives it an amazingly shiny finish.

Assembly Notes

  • The blade requires a ¼" threaded steel rod down the middle for structural support. I epoxied mine into the tip section, and then used a locking nut on the pommel end.
  • 2mm steel pins should be used to align each section (holes are included in the print model)
  • The crossguard prints in 2 halves, which should then be sanded flat and epoxied together
  • The scabbard prints in halves, so you'll need to print each file twice.
  • The scabbard vertical alignment pins are correct, the horizontal alignment pins seem to not be correct despite being symmetrical (need to fix this in a later version). Use them at your own discretion.

The Blender source file is included in the downloads if you need to make adjustments or want to remix. Have fun destroying evil!
