Light-blocking Covers for AliExpress Ant Nest

This is a set of 3D-printed light-blocking covers designed for the common acrylic ant nests sold on AliExpress. These nests consist of stacked plastic sheets and allow a lot of ambient light to pass through from the sides and top, which can be stressful for most ant species.

This mod includes:

1. Side panels to cover the perimeter of the nest and foraging area.
2. A removable top cover to shield the nest chamber from overhead light.

This modification improves the appearance of the setup while providing effective shielding and can be easily removed for observation.

⚠Before printing, you need to know:

• I highly recommend applying black electrical tape along the edges of the nest and the foraging area in combination with these printed covers to ensure minimal light leakage. 
• I also recommend black electrical tape for the 3d printed top cover. 
• You can also stick rubber feet to the 3D-printed light 

This creates a much more stable and ant-friendly environment, especially for species that are sensitive to light.

🛠 Recommended print settings:

• Material: PLA, PETG or even ABS
• Layer height: 0.3 mm for faster printing
• Infill: 15–25%
• Supports: Not required
• Color: Black or dark filament strongly recommended
