Description
If you have an 27" Apple intel iMac, circa 2013 (A1419 in my case) that just won't stay tilted the way you desire, you probably know that the spring mechanism has broken. Here is a part that can permanently fix the problem.
Please keep in mind that disassembling these computers is a complex process and is not for amateurs. You need to remove everything inside to get to this mechanism! Please check around the internet for guides before attempting this repair!
And this might not be the right website for this part either - DO NOT 3D PRINT THIS PART IN ANY PLASTIC MATERIAL, ESPECIALLY NOT PLA OR ABS! - IT WILL QUICKLY BREAK AND MAY CAUSE DAMAGE TO OTHER PARTS OF YOUR COMPUTER! - the springs exert too much force to reliably be held by 3d printed plastic materials! This part is to be made out of metal only - Preferably steel! (Prototype milled part shown in images made out of 1018 steel.) If you make this part, you take on all liabilities for the part you make and use! If you would decide to print in high strength plastics, such as carbon fiber reinforced nylon, you assume all stress analysis and engineering liabilities.
