Replacement Housing for Uniden Hardwire Kit for JZS171

This has been an idea I had been conceptualizing for a long time- having a blended or more-discreet radar installation that looks OEM-ish. I finally found a car that I wanted to put this on, so here is the model.

In the original model linked, I measured the security module for my replacement dash finisher trim after I popped it out. Then I measured the Uniden Hardwire Kit (Amazon affiliate link) board and then arranged and created the assembly to get the end-result you see published here.

You can print with or without the text using an AMS, or just leave it smooth, which looks equally as clean. There is ample space to the right of the module too if you want to add another accessory or LEDs and buttons. I was debating on adding a power switch slider in the OEM-style for cutting power to the radar in non-permissive regions.

Printing Instructions

• Material: ABS
• Support: Tree supports
• Layer Height: 0.12mm
  • You want to print as a fine height as you can to eliminate layer lines
• Infill: As recommended
• Walls: 4
  • Detect Thin Walls: On if you are printing in multi-color.

Assembly Instructions

Preparing the printed model

1. After your model is printed, take a 2.5mm drill bit to chase out the LED holes.
2. Eliminate any remaining debris or sagging overhangs on the model with a craft knife or flush cutters.

Preparing the Uniden Hardwire Kit

In order to use this printed housing, you must separate the Uniden Hardwire Kit logic board from its housing.

There isn't really a good set of instructions on how to do this aside “be careful”. You will likely obliterate your housing, but won't damage your board if you are careful in prying it apart.

I put my housing in a vice, and tightened it down until the seams split slightly to get my flathead driver and pry-tool inside.

Assembling the housing

1. Separate the logic board from the harness by the JST connector from the board. Install the hardwire kit into your car by tapping the 12v and ground where appropriate, and run the RJ45-like connector to where ever you wish to mount your radar. Do all of this in a way where your JST connector is accessible in the left-hand side of your Instrument Cluster Dash Finish panel.
2. Reinstall the instrument cluster dash finish panel, and pull through the connector of the harness.
3. Place the hardwire kit logic board into the housing you printed. Ensure the board is seated on the two poles towards the back. Place the rubber grommet on the housing.
4. Press the printed button onto the front of board's button switch.
5. Snap the module into place on the dash finish panel.
