Description

Mag Buddy is a simple magnetic grip tool that makes unlocking child safety cabinet locks easier, with added utility for everyday use.

Insert a circular magnet to turn it into a comfortable handle when unlocking magnetic cabinet latches. It also works well as a large fridge magnet, paper holder, or for any quick magnetic task around the house or workshop.

It comes in multiple sizes to fit common neodymium magnets, including 15x2, 15x3, 20x2, 20x3, 25x2, and 19.5x2.6 mm (the one i had on hand). A blank version is included for customizing your own size in 3MF/STEP.  If you make your own, make sure to add ~0.2 mm  depth tolerance and ~0.15 mm diameter tolerance to your actually measured magnet size.  These extra tolerances are already built into my named size files (e.g. 15x2 is really a 15.15x2.2 diameter/depth hole).

The hand-facing side features a small magnet icon as a visual cue. Shown here printed in two-tone grey and purple for contrast.

For best results with cabinet locks, use a larger/stronger magnet like the 20x3 mm size. Smaller ones may still work depending on your needs.

Magnets Note: Magnet grade/size/depth can matter for how strong the magnetic effect is. Lower grade N35 magnets like Bambu sells worked fine for me in a large size, but you may be able to get away with smaller magnets with higher magnetism grades (e.g. N50).  The most common grades of Neodymium magnets are N35, N38, N40, N42, N45, N48, N50, N52, and N55, with higher grades being more expensive but stronger.

Sizing Note:  You should consider printing a test chip first to make sure your magnet size matches!  Test chips included for each size except for blanks.  If the test chip is close but doesn't quite fit your exact magnet.. scale the test chip in XY (and Z if needed) until it fits, then print the real thing.
