Rival 1042 Food Slicer Thickness Adjuster Detent Ring

We bought a Rival 1042 Food Slicer for $5 at a garage sale. When we attempted to use it, we quickly discovered that the thickness knob kept moving around when in use. I took it apart and I assume something is broken or missing inside it. Since there were no extra pieces and no diagrams about what is supposed to be inside, I had to design something to fix the problem…

And that resulted in this rather odd detent ring. Print in your choice of food-safe filaments. (I chose ABS) and print with as much detail as possible. If your print comes out right, it should snugly fit over the inner bore of the adjustment knob. If it does, rough up the existing plastic with sandpaper and glue in place. This detent ring should allow adjustments of 0.031" per click in food thickness.

And after 4 revisions, we have a working Food Slicer. Knob stays where you set it and everything else seems to work beautifully. Now if only I could satisfy my curiosity about how the original slicer would have worked and if anything actually broke or was lost before we bought it.
