Based on the Standalone Touch ID Module by SnazzyLabs, this new version of a Standalone Touch ID Module provides a multitude of improvements.
TODO:
- Add more pictures of assembly
- Add clear instructions around battery connection and insertion
- Validate Lightning port screw sizes
- Write disassembly instructions
Improvements:
- Allows mounting the Touch ID module with screws instead of glue and retains usage of the Touch ID button as a power button that can be pressed.
- Screw secured lid
- Shelf designed to hold battery in place
- Sides opened to make connection of battery easier
- Adjusted location of motherboard for easier mounting and easier Lightning port installation
- Added shelf for easier Lightning port installation
- Reworked Lightning mount point to allow tapping of machine screws instead of melted plastic
The main downside of this redesign is that it requires more parts, but it uses fairly standard metric parts:
- New:
- For motherboard:
- (2) M1.4 Heat-Set Inserts (2.5mm x 2.5mm)
- (2) M1.4 x 3mm machine screws
- For lid:
- (3) M3 Heat-Set Inserts (5mm x 4mm)
- (3) M3-0.5 x 4mm machine screws
- For Lightning port:
- (2) M2-0.4 4mm machine screws (force threaded into the Lightning mount points)
- Reused parts from keyboard:
- Touch ID Module
- Washer plate for Touch ID Module
- Four screws holding washer plate to Touch ID module
- Battery
- Motherboard
- Lightning connector
Disassembly:
- TBD - coming soon
- Very finicky, you need to be super careful with all the connectors as they can easily break
