Bird Cage Feeder Bottle Adapter

I rescued a rainbow lorikeet some time ago (we call her “Bow”), and she has a habit of going through an epic amount of water, so most of the usual water containers are too small for her daily consumption, and by consumption I mean that she both drinks and finds a way to bathe using her water feeder, ignoring the perfectly good bird bath that I got her because… bird!!! This little carnival chicken also loves to give into her destructive thoughts and destroys her feeders because she is the true master of chaos.

Rather than spending the equivalent of the GDP of a small island nation to regularly replace bird-tested feeders, I now just print of a couple of these feeder bottoms every now and then, which screw on to standard 600ml PET water/soda bottles.

I have shown the model in black PETG to match the destructive soul of “Bow the fabulous destroyer”, who - no surprises - refused to pose nicely for the photo.  

The support ring is sized to fit the 10mm bar spacing of most larger cages, and is a snug fit for most bottles with a diameter of 68mm. I use it as a fully enclosed circle, but it could be easily modified in your slicer to be more of a split ring if you prefer.

The feeder base is designed to make it easier to clean as there are no sharp corners in the interior.  A 0.1mm layer height would make the bottom layers smoother, however, the tradeoff would be a much longer print time. I find a standard 2mm layer height is perfectly fine, and if you are concerned about algae build up then it is relatively cheap and easy to reprint.  Alternately, Orcaslicer will allow you to vary the layer heights so that you can fine tune things to make it easier to remove algae when cleaning.

This design should suit seed as well as water, although I haven't tested this yet. It also prints  nicely without supports.
