Description

Ever had your towel slip off the hook and onto the floor? This towel holder's wedge shape solves that problem. It gently pinches the towel in place, so it stays put until you're ready to use it.

There are 2 versions of the holder:

  1. For adhesives. This holder is intended to be mounted with some sort of adhesive. My preferred way is using hot melt glue, which sticks fairly well to most non-porous surfaces and can be easily removed by a small drop of isopropyl alcohol.

  2. For Multiboard. This holder is designed to mount to a Multiboard using snaps.

Printing instructions

The models are pre-oriented for printing. The intended print orientation is on the top edge of the holder. There shouldn't be any need for brims, but if bed adhesion turns out to be an issue adding a brim or “mouse ears” won't hurt the model.

The parts are designed to be printed with Multiboard-like settings. The recommended material is PLA, but there is no reason why the model wouldn't work on other materials. I don't recommend printing in any Silk filaments though as the layer adhesion will suffer.

Print settings

Aside from the below settings, use your printer defaults.

Brim

None (recommended)

If the steep overhang causes issues with the Multiboard variant, paint on supports can be used. From my experience the overhang tends to print fairly well even with lacking cooling without support too.

Multiboard

When using multiboard version of the holder, print the required number of moderate weight bearing flush snaps and screw them into the mid threads on the back of the holder. Make sure that the small hook on the snap is oriented towards the top of the holder. Insert the snaps into the multiboard at slight angle starting from the top of the holder and then press flush to the multiboard.

If the snaps are tight, the DS snaps grip tool can be used to easily align the snaps. insert the snap into the tool just like it was a multiboard panel and rotate the tool to align snaps.

Custom sizes

The base model is designed around small towels, like tea towels and microfiber cloths. The adhesives version can be scaled up for bigger towels, but a better option is to modify the source model directly. CAD model is available on OnShape. The model is as parametric as I could reasonably make it, so most aspects of the hook can easily be adjusted.

Inspiration

The design is heavily inspired by Towel Hooks by  Andor Yoko, which I found challenging to print with the lacking cooling on my toolhead. I also wanted to improve the durability of the hooks by adjusting the layer lines to match with the forces applied to the holder

The model has been designed from scratch using printability as the design goal.
