Overview

I loved the idea of JeffsPrints' original vent indicator here: CORE One Vent Open/Closed Indicator and Handle. Tom_Ash's remix here inspired me to make updates on my own, as I wanted mine to be easier to be seen at a distance and fit the aesthetic I'm working on with my Core One. Magnets are a great way to add to the feel of a project, and the screws that effectively attach the Cover to the Indicator piece are a great way of keeping the whole thing stable on top of the printer without additional adhesive.

Through a simple color change at layer, you can print the indicator portion in two separate colors for larger blocks that show whether your vent is open/closed at a distance. Here is an example of how to slice the file for the changes:

Parts needed:
4x    6x3mm disc magnets
2x    M3x20mm Screws

Assembly

  1. Unscrew the vent cover from the top lid and save all the hardware
  2. Attach the Indicator piece to the lid using the original hardware. Use the three large holes on the top:
  3. Test the Indicator piece first now to ensure the vent cover opens/closes smoothly. This does not need to be incredibly tight, however you don't want too much play either.
  4. Insert (2) 6x3mm magnets into the slots in the back of the Indicator (this should be a friction fit, but you can use glue if desired). Make sure all magnets inserted face the same polarity (for example, all (+) faces pointing up).
  5. Slide the Cover piece on top of the indicator and ensure that the feet at the bottom sit nicely in the top vent holes.
  6. Finally, attach the Handle to the assembly. The M3x20mm screws will go through the holes in the Handle, through the slots in the Cover, and then thread directly into the Indicator
