Description

These were a relatively simple model from my backlog so I whipped them together between two separate short sessions.

AI likes to add anywhere between 0 and 10 legs to insect creatures. In this case we had 8 so I had to remove a pair and then add an armature to move the remaining legs into the correct position. The limbs on these models tend to be whispy thin so they need a LOT of inflating and there isn't much to be shaded by the AI generated materials. For some inspiration I looked at giant fire beetles which are sadly very weak. I added a swarm and swarm of swarm (throng) statblocks to the post here. I for the throng I was thinking of adding a charge or stampede ability but grapple seems like it'd fit - these would be a pretty nasty CR2 challenge because how they hit and how resistant they are to damage (and much harder in multiples). One thing that might go unnoticed is their climbing ability which gives them quite a bit of extra mobility and the option to drop onto a party from the ceiling.

The shell seems like it should be mostly plain so I didn't do much there and instead put some time into generating multiple sizes for this creature starting at 50mm then working my way down to 10mm. Given that these have a LOT of space underneath I would recommend printing without the baseplates, straight up on the build plate with thin tree supports for FDM. For Resin you can print with the baseplate or without but you'll want light supports.

That's it. Thanks for following along on the quest to 1000 so far this is model 524/1000.

I'm on a quest to make 1000 free DND/TTRPG miniatures. See my other models and progress on Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/c/Adamnant
