Description
Remix of hegelklimbo's original balancer that uses 608 bearings. See photos and original for assembly.
Some changes I made:
-Converted it to use 608 bearings & a M8 shaft.
-Tightened up some tolerances.
-Added some 8-32 set screw holes around the perimeter to allow for more accurate balancing of the fixture.
-My magnets were annoyingly strong so I made some stand-off caps.
You will need:
2 x 608 Bearings
1 x M8x90 Screw
1 x M8 Nut
1 x M8 Washer
6 x 20mm Magnets
6 x 8-32 Countersunk Screws for Magnets
6 x 8-32 Nuts
(Optional) 8-32 set screws for blancing faceplate.
It's an uphill battle trying to get a 3D print perfectly balanced. Having your seams be "random" & getting quality magnets (with a consistent weight) will make things easier. Using actual high-end skateboard bearings (not Chinese 608s) will lend to a more accurate balancer but it will be harder to get a perfect balance. I chased my tail a bit trying to make it perfect but at the end of the day a 1 gram imbalance at the end of your lawnmower blade is going to make little difference. You really only need to be concerned if one side of your blade QUICKLY falls to the bottom of the fixture on something this sensitive.
I bought a Tecomec balancer to compare against and mine was actually more sensitive. Will be returning it and keeping the print.
