Description
This is a tweaked version of RatRig's Large RatPack, modified to accept HEPA filter cartridge that is more accessible for those living in North America, especially Canada. Alongside, there are some quality of life improvements like JST plug on the side for easier maintenance, as well as flexibility of mounting the filter on the side of a 3030 extrusion based printer frame allowing for a more flush mounting in printers like V-Core 4.
Filter cartridge I chose for this is meant for “Afloia Q10 Air Cleaner Purifier and Dehumidifier 2-in-1” and can be found inexpensively on Amazon (both Canada and US) (under 8 USD per cartridge). Filter size is ~ 6"x6.4"x1.5" (imperial) or 168x157x45mm for the metric folks (as measured). I went with a compatible replacement made by “PUREBURG” which the measured dimensions are from.
For the blower fan I used, and can highly recommend, is the blower fan that Bambu Lab uses for their X1/P1 auxiliary part cooling. Not the cheapest option, but readily available on spare parts on Bambu's site, and I'd say, a very good quality one. Very powerful and whisper quiet at as much as 80% speed, PWM controlled with tachometer (4pin fan), yet 24V unlike many other PWM fans that are usually 12V. To wire it up - simply refer to how to wire 4pin fan writeup in RatRig's documentation. This fan does not have countersunk holes - to accommodate flush mount - use countersink tool to add flange to the holes for the countersunk bolts to fit flush.
Material to print this from - ABS/ASA - recommended. PLA/PETG not good choice for something that may see temperatures near 60 degrees C. That for all parts except the gasket: it is to be printed from TPU (choose the softest one you got).
Original RatRig RatPack mounting bracket can also be used in case top of extrusion mounting is preferred.
If using my redesigned mounting bracket - you could add a piece of self adhering 2-3mm thick foam to the back of the fan on the opposite side of the bracket to act as a dampener against the panel of the printer. Not mandatory, but will dampen any potential vibrations from the fan.
The hardware required is same as for the original RatPack. An extra is the 4pin JST XH2.54 male connector to make maintenance easier. Leave about 10cm from the wire and solder the connector at the end - thread trough the slot and secure with a dab of super glue.
Wiring on the fan (since Bambu Lab went with weird color scheme), as seen on the pic I posted with the connector - starting from the left to right - White - PWM signal, Light Gray (?) - TACH, Black - +24V, Dark Grey (?) - GND.
