Description
Some morons broke into my 2015 Jeep Wrangler and broke the center console open, because I foolishly thought that being locked would be able to stop someone. The plate that the console lid catches to hold it shut was broken (picture 1). I used it for the measurements to make myself a new plate. I was also able to salvage the two white clips from the original (picture 2 and 3) you need a knife or something to pry the longer tab up to remove the clip.
I also have a 120 V electrical outlet, but I made a version without the outlet hole. I've never been in another 2015 Wrangler, so I have no idea if the outlet is standard, or an option that the original owner got. I also don't know if this would fit other years around 2015 or not.
Put the white clips on the two post first (picture 6). You have to insert the outlet into the hole first. Then connect the wire. Finally, put the plate in place and give it a firm push from the top. You want the little clip at the bottom to engage the hole.
Now the console lid will stay shut. And learn from my mistake, don't leave anything valuable in the console. And never lock it and it will never be broken again!
This is the design that I'm most proud of. It had to fit perfectly, and I think I nailed it. Hope it can help someone else who's been put in the same situation.
If you use this for another Jeep model and year, PLEASE post a make and let us know what it is so we will know what else it will work for.
