Description
The Kyosho Dirt Master is a great retro 2WD buggy for the rear-motor Silver Can class, but without a cooling fan, the motor can fade as it overheats. This fan mount positions a standard 30mm RC fan, like the Protek PTK-2112, or the Yeah Racing Tornado Plus, in an optimum location for getting airflow around the motor. Since it's made of TPU, it is tough/durable and provides shock-isolation for the fan as well as reducing mechanical coupling of noise into the chassis (so the fan is quiet!). The fans are slightly different, so there are two versions of the print. The picture below shows an ARRAROWN Rocket fan, which is equivalent to the Protek.
Here is the Yeah Racing version.
The mount uses the existing holes where the rear motor guard attaches to the differential case.
It is optional, but I did trim away some of the excess plastic of the motor guard that was protruding into the airflow. Without the fan in place, I simply scored the area with a scribe and used a dremel tool to cut away the small amount of plastic.
The stock M3 button head screws that held that small triangular plasic trim piece will work fine to hold the fan mount.
One other note about the Protek version is that it is mean to use smaller M2.5 hardware that sit further down in the fan, versus the Yeah Racing version, which uses longer M3 screws.
The material I chose is Hatchbox black TPU 95A shore hardness, and it can print directly on the build plate with no supports.
The motor is only warm to the touch now after a 5 minute heat, so it works extremely well, enjoy!
