Description
I wanted to put a Meshtastic node on my car so I can get better reception when ‘wardriving’ so I designed this one that sticks on using 4 magnets.
You can fit pretty much any hardware inside, but it has provisions for a Heltec T114 LoRA board.
The antenna angle can be adjusted 10 degrees either side to account for your car roof being curved.
It's been tested in the real world up to 230km/h, did not move an milimeter. I've been driving with it on my car for about a month so far zero issues.
This is not designed to be waterproof, but it should handle some light rain. The electronics compartment is separated from the antenna part.
BEWARE: stick a soft material onto the bottom of the mount to prevent scratching your paint if you care about it. I used textile electrical tape, been fine so far. I don't recommend putting a battery inside as it will get VERY hot in direct sunlight. Dead bugs WILL accumulate onto it, that's just part of life.
Required bits:
4pcs. KNC20 stud magnets (20x7mm cylindrical neodynium magnets with a thread on top)
1pcs. SMA connector with U.FL (IPEX) pigtail to connect to the board
4pcs. M3 screws (between 15-20mm long)
4pcs. M3 heat-set inserts
