Description
These knobs can replace both the large and small knobs on a Maytag or Whirlpool washer and dryer.
Backstory:
My large timer knob cracked on my Maytag dryer after only two years of use. On removing the broken part, I find that the knob was really flimsy - injection molded ABS plastic, with a shaft of less than 1.5mm.
Now, can I purchase a replacement ? Yes.
Am I willing pay $20 and line dry my laundry for the 3-4 days it takes to get here ? Heck, no.
3D printer to the rescue!
Installation instructions:
Voila! Should last for years. If it doesn't, you can replace it with fifty cents of material and an hour of print time.
Printing instructions:
Shown in Prusament PLA Oh My Gold. I used the octogram spiral pattern on the bottom layer to enhance the effect of the silk / metallic PLA. Sliced for MK4S, but fits most build plates / printers.
No supports, or rafts required.
Final note:
It's a little shocking how skimpy the main piece that holds the load on the original part really is. There is easily room for 3mm of material, as designed here - the difference in cost in ABS plastic is less than a penny. If this is how dryer knobs are made these days, how am I supposed to trust the manufacturing quality of a microwave ? Scary.
