Description
The stock paddle shifters are prone to breaking, and generally very unsatisfying. I haven't broken mine, but I can see why they break so often.
I'm in the middle of a wheel upgrade, that is putting a larger round wheel on the C5. Since I have it apart, I tore into the paddle shifters, and designed new ones that are beefier, shouldn't break as easily, and are adjustable. Further, you can design your own paddles to screw onto the blocks if you don't like mine. That's right, it's modular. The spacing of the M3 slots is 7.4mm on centre, and the interface portion to be bolted down is 4mm thick. Feel free to design your own.
Parts are already oriented correctly for printing, no supports needed. I do recommend printing in PETG, ASA, or ABS; you want an engineering material. Print at 0.2 layers, 40% infill, 5 top and bottom layers, and 4 perimeters. This design makes use of M3x4 heat set inserts; if you can't work with those, this may not be for you. Print the parts, they are identical left to right, so no mirroring in the slicer or anything, just print 2 of each.
You will need:
4 x M3x4 heat set inserts. M3x6 will work too, the whole is 7mm deep.
4 x M3x8mm SHCS or BHCS, whatever you have kicking around.
Once printed I recommend sanding the top and bottom surfaces of the blocks. I also recommend chasing the hole with a 1/8" drill bit. This will clean it up, and ensure a semi loose fit on the 3mm shaft. Insert your heatsets, and screw on your paddles. There is some room for adjusting the angle and the length of the paddles.
Remove the existing pins and paddles, don't lose the springs. Insert the replacements, line up the pins, and screw them back in. Installation done. I find these much more comfortable.
NOTE: the pictures show a slightly different version. The final model has the face with the heatsets extended an additional 2mm from the base to allow for the full range of adjustment on the paddles.
