Description
This is one part of a delta ring, the barrel nut, that should allow you to use a proper delta ring and the TM RIS handguard. This then allows you to do do things like run a M203 under barrel grenade launcher with the top of the RIS still on. Or use the RIS rail on a barrel without the screwhole in the bottom for the slip ring. It also works with standard rails and handguards in the same way the TM slip ring did, so you shouldn't have any issues with that.
The threads on the barrel nut are a slightly modified profile for 31.8mm diameter with a pitch of 1.5mm (standard TM spec, most AEGs use this).
With the regular thread profile it is very tight, so I effectivly used a 32mm diameter but without the rounded end. If you wanted this threaded for real steel rifles for some reason LMK and I can sort something out.
I did also model the standard slip ring as I started modelling anything before actually thinking about the issue I wanted to solve. It did come in handy when later modelling the barrel nut, so if you need a replacement TM slip ring that is available to download too.
To print the barrel nut I would recommend printing at .1mm layers so the threads have more of a chance to work. Place the nut green faces down with tree supports on the inner green area for support.
I have ordered on to be printed by JLCPCB in SLM stainless steel for $8 plus $5 for postage and will see how that turns out. But as it stands, the PLA printed version has not had any issues even with my M203 hanging off the front, so a stronger plastic like ABS or something with CF would most likely be just fine.
You may need to do some filing, I had already done some a few years ago in a vain attempt to get the TM RIS to fit on a regular unmodified delta ring setup but most of what I did is unnecessary, but doesn't seem to have effected function or fitment on the standard ring (that I then carried on using). I think this is because the tabs just go down the back of the stock slip ring and don't contact anything normally.
Here are the areas you should file down to the thickness of the filing guide:
Barrel Nut - The barrel nut
Filing Guide - A ring you can place in the lower and upper channels in the handguards to know how far to sand the tabs down.
TM Slip Ring - The slip ring that fits to the standard barrel
