The CustomFPV camera mount is now open source! This mount was designed in late 2023 to be the go to mount for top pilots. It immediately inspired other mounts with its innovative design and took 2 of the podium positions in January at Whooptopia 2024, including 1st place!

This mount took on several forms. The initial idea I brought to CustomFPV looked much different. We reworked the design from scratch multiple times to fix different issues until finally, he decided that he really wanted to make the design have 3-point mounting with a fixed angle. And he was right! This absolutely is the preference of most top pilots, for whom this mount was made for.

From there, he perfected the design through tons of trial and error, ensuring that every part of the design was exactly as thick as it needed to be and no more, down to the layer. 20 versions later, and we have a masterpiece!

To this day (currently 2025), there still has not been a camera mount designed that matches this mount’s level of durability and protection at this weight or less.

That’s because the design process took nearly 6 months with constant testing and extreme attention to detail. I personally believe this is one of the greatest camera mount designs in Micro FPV history and am super proud to have worked on this project with CustomFPV.

This mount can be extremely difficult to print and tends to print better at 40-45 degree camera angles. For this reason, we’ve previously left this mount closed source and printed exclusively by CustomFPV, who perfected the design and printing process to be fully optimised.

We’ve agreed to open-source the design, but do so with the warning that printing results may vary. CustomFPV has made a video showing his tips for printing and using this mount, and it is highly recommended to watch that video.

The arms are designed to be slightly shorter. This is because they are made to slightly stretch out to the side mounting points, offering increased rigidity.

The first released version of this mount was made to fit cameras with a 12x12 PCB, no case, and an M7 lens. The most popular of these is the Pinch camera.

The second released version of this mount was made to fit cameras with a 14x14 PCB, no case, and an M7 lens. The most popular of these would be the Eco and BeeEye cameras. The Ant Lite would also likely fit.

This mount is made to be printed in TPU and is fully optimised and designed for that.

Though very durable for what it is, this mount is predominantly made for ultra light racing aircraft. Heavy freestyle quads may experience the increased breaking of parts.

It is generally recommended, when using any similar mount, to ensure the camera is not sitting directly over the receiver on the flight controller which tend to be more prone to break when impacted. BetaFPV flight controllers tend to be designed with the receiver in the front, so it’s often recommended to either rotate your flight controller 90 degrees so that the receiver isn’t directly under the camera or to mount your flight controller underneath the primary mounting points on the frame to ensure there is space between the mount and flight controller. Alternatively, using a flight controller which doesn’t use the front mounting point on a frame may ensure the camera/mount isn’t sitting directly on top of the PCB at all or on any fragile parts of it.
