Description

Design principle

The core of this design are the cleverly designed edge profile. They can be printed without supports in the uploaded orientation. Also the side, top and bottom panels can be printed without supports. The housing is assembled using M3x6 screws that are driven directly into the profiles.

Using this housing for your projects

Unless you use the same display as I did, you may want to use the generic front/back side and do your needed cutouts for your specific application.

Other sizes of this housing

If there is significant interest, I can certainly make and upload other sizes of this housing. Contact me if you have such a need.

My use case

I have designed this housing for a software defined radio receiver, based on a RaspberryPi4 and a 5inch touch screen display. The display mounts directly to the front, using the spacers M3 screws. The RaspberryPi is mounted to the Display with M2.5 screws via the adapter plate. The display is actually made to hold the RaspberryPi directly, but the postion of the RaspberryPi is then too close to the housing walls to connect any cables to the interfaces (you will need cables with 90° connectors or respective 90° adapters).

Printing

As said, printing of these parts is very simply. Just print them in the uploaded orientation. A layer height of 0.2mm is fine. I recommend to use a couple of perimeters on the edge profile (4-5) and maybe 30% infill, to make it really strong. For the panels, I recommend 100% infill with 2 perimeters. I used PETG, which I recommend, at least for the profiles. The flexibility of PETG allows the M3 screws to be driven directly into the holes. That does now work as well with PLA.
