Overview:
This is a plant holder I made for a family member who had some specific requirements (mainly it had to be tall and fairly narrow)
This design allows for a variable choice of height, and will depend on the length of your four dowel rods.
Bill of Materials:
There are no model variations in this design, but there is a variable bill of materials depending on how you want to create the final plant holder, and whether or not you wish to use screws to reinforce it as opposed to glue.
If you wish to use screws to reinforce the topper or stabilizer in any configuration, you will need:
- (x4) 1 inch #6 drywall screws for the topper
- (x4) 1 inch #6 drywall screws for the stabilizer
- A drill with a small bit for the pilot hole, and a drill or Philips screwdriver to install the screws
If you wish to use the included legs for the stand, you will need:
- (x4) M3 heat-set inserts, to be melted into the base (these provide the threaded holes that the legs will screw into)
- (x4) M3 30mm long socket head bolts (inserted into the bottom of the legs)
- A soldering iron to melt in the heat-set inserts
- An Allen key or bit to screw in the M3 bolts
All builds will need:
- (x4) ¾" dowel rods in whatever height you wish the plant holder to be
The stabilizer part is optional. You can print the other parts first, and get a feel for how strong the final product is. If you have some wobble (likely at any holder over 12 to 18 inches tall) The stabilizer can help keep the whole assembly rigid.
Print Settings (All Parts):
- 100% infill (change this if you know what you're doing, but the added weight helps stabilize the end result)
- 0.16mm layer height
- PLA or PLA+
- Walls: Default
- Brim:
- Planter Base: YES
- Planter Topper: YES
- Planter Stabilizer: NO (I didn't need one, but using one could help if you have warping issues normally)
- Legs: NO
- Supports:
- Planter Base: NO
- Planter Topper: YES
- Planter Stabilizer: NO
- Legs: NO
- Orientation:
- All parts should load into the slicer in their proper orientation
- As a general reference, all parts should be printed in the same orientation as they'll eventually be in, except for the legs. Print these upside down to keep the bolt-hole clean and remove the need for supports.
Notes:
- I used glue for my setup (you will need this either way for the base, but screw-in holes are there for the stabilizer and topper)
- My plant holder was 24 inches tall, and it's very stable (or as stable as it can be), I am not sure how this will work higher than that.
- The diameter of the topper is about 4 ¾", the base of your plant pot needs to be this diameter or smaller.
- The legs are 100% optional, but they help with wobble. Even a small amount of warping will make the planter base wobble.
- For more specific measurements, I've included design specs for each part.
