Description
A modified Set of Boxturtles Desiccant Case and Lid.
Based on and for: https://github.com/ArmoredTurtle/BoxTurtle
Why?
I printed the Desiccant Cases and Lids in ASA as all other Boxturtle Parts.
Afterwards i checked the Fit and Functionality of the Parts as i do on all others.
(yes, my Voron Trident 350 is tuned, also the Filament - all as good as i can and my knowledge reaches)
The Problems i faced with the original Design:
The Desiccant Case Edges are designed with Chamfers which leads to vertical ridges at the Chamfer Start- and endpoints which is probably a Fault on my side (Setup).
The Desiccant Case barely fits into the Tray, it is a bit to big in X and Y (i can print Tolerances of 0.15mm and do have arachne and preceise Walls activated)
Gripping the Lever of the Desiccant Lid is hard for me, also it breaks verry easy (i printed the Lid flat, so the printed Spring depends on verry little mm² Layer Adhesion which is suboptimal).
What?
So, i redesigned the Desiccant Case and Lid:
All Parts (Case, Lid and Modifier) are scaled to 0.995% - they slide right into the Tray here without the Need of any Rework.
The outer Corners of the Case are rounded to avoid Ridges.
I removed the Spring and Grip of the Lid and designed them for 6x2 Neodym Magnets, also there is a Recess in the Top Shell of the Lid to grip it with a Finger Nail.
(Bonus: it assembles some Sort of smiling Face which is absolutely on Purpose and Truely wanted ;) )
The Seats for the Magnets and the Magnet-Insert are designed with large Tolerances, so you have to glue them in with Cyancrylate (super) Glue.
Base-Files:
File Desiccant_case_6x2_Magnet-Insert_scaled is ment to be glued in into the vertical Tube of the Desiccant Case (which is used as Slot for the Spring Lever on the Original Design).
File Desiccant_case_28mm_better_Printable_scaled is the revisited Desiccant Case
File Desiccant_Lid_6x2_Magnet-Insert_scaled is the redesigned Lid (print it with 2 Wall Loops)
File Desiccant_Lid_6x2_Magnet-Insert_modifier_scaled is the Modifier for the Lid (you typically import it in your Slicer as Modifier and set it to:)
0 Top and Bottom Layers
35% Infill
Hexagonal Infill
Optional Files:
Desiccant_Lid_6x2_Magnet-Insert_included_modifier_scaled.step is a File with Lid and Modifier combined into a Part (in Orca Slicer you can split it into Parts and dont have to manually Align the two Parts)
Boxturtle_Dessicant_Trays_2x.3mf The Plate for my Voron Trident 350 with a Set of 2 Trays, including the Desiccant Cases, Lids and Magnet-Inserts.
My Freecad Project File (please keep in Mind that i am no Pro - i am slowly learning to use FreeCAD, so please dont lough about my stumbling forward to reach my Goals)
Last Thoughts:
I hope, this is useable for others, and i want to Thank the Designers of Boxturtle for their Work and making it available for Free!
Cheers!
