Description
Another model without using AI. Six months ago I don't think I could have made something like this. I think it turned out OK - really really nice actually. I used an ico sphere for the head and then subdivided / tweaked the mesh until it had the shape that I wanted then. Then I made arms out of curves - playing with the radius feature I was able to make them gradually smaller. Looking at reference photos they really seem to curl their arms a lot so I tried to do the same thing adding some variation between left/right. They do have a LOT of suction cups but I didn't want to spend hours putting them on so I opted for a single set of larger suction cups running up the arms using a metal rivet brush that I had. The eyes are another another type of rivet brush and then I traced over it with a crease brush. For the skin I wasn't going to texture it at all but then I saw that the draw brush was all mangled due and this was perfect for a veiny wrinkled mottled skin texture.
The head is pretty oversized but I really like it. I might make another variant later with a mouth or perhaps just a barrel/crate/chest of tentacles.
I've added 50mm and 25mm versions of this fellow and included the 3mf file that I intend to do my test print with (after the next set of dice towers are done here). I expect resin will look really neat but it might also be good to hollow out the head.
I'm on a quest to make 1000 3d print models this year. I recently launched https://gmbuddy.com/ to help Game Masters easily find high-quality, free minis for their campaigns - broken down by chapter so they can prioritize which minis then need, how many and when. This Octopus is part of that work to make sure that there are a good variety of Giant Octopus models available.
