Ratcheting Magnet Insert Tool

Overview

This project is a magnet insertion tool that holds a row of 5x3mm magnets and can lock into place at various steps. The tool can hold 20 5x3mm magnets total. The “pusher” piece has a spot to embed a magnet for a consistent polarity.

Printing

I'd recommend printing in PETG so that the compliant mechanism for ratcheting stays consistent. The Mag Tube doesn't require any supports, however I'd recommend at least some snug supports for the pusher section so the overhanging bits play nicely.

Assembly

1. Glue your magnet into the slot of the Mag Pusher piece (I just used some gel super glue). This will determine the polarity of what you place with the tool.
   
2. Insert the pusher onto the Mag Tube piece. The pieces with click together each step along the outside of the tube.
   
    
3. Insert your stack of magnets and enjoy!
