Description
This project consists of a 3D-printed worm screw with a locking pin, designed for mechanical transmission systems. The worm screw allows for rotational-to-linear motion conversion or for gear reduction in small-scale mechanisms.
The aim is to provide a compact, easy-to-print worm gear solution with integrated pin-locking capability, improving stability and alignment in DIY or educational mechanisms.
3D printer (FDM recommended)
Filament: PETG, Nylon, or PLA+ (for better durability, heat resistance, and strength)
Metal or plastic lock pin (depending on your needs)
Optional: lubricant for smoother motion
Tools: Allen key or small screwdriver (for assembly), pliers (for pin insertion)
The worm screw is modeled with a central bore to accommodate a locking pin, preventing unwanted axial or rotational displacement.
Compatible with matching worm gears (not included in this STL).
Designed for low to moderate torque systems.
Precision of print is critical for good meshing and function.

Print with 100% infill for best strength.
Use supports if necessary depending on printer orientation.
Insert the pin after positioning the worm screw in the housing or gear assembly.
Ensure the pin fits tightly without splitting the part.
Recommended layer height: 0.1–0.2 mm for precision
Optional: Sanding and lubrication can enhance rotation smoothness.
Do not use in high-load or high-speed applications.
Avoid applying excessive torque – this component is intended for light mechanical uses.
Use durable filament and test before final assembly.
Keep out of reach of children (pin and small parts may be dangerous if swallowed).
