Description

1. Introduction

This project involves the 3D printing of a replacement stopper part for a Velux blind (roller/shade). The stopper is the small but essential component located at the bottom of the fabric that holds the cord under tension, ensuring the blind remains properly stretched and functional.

2. Project Objective

To provide a durable and easy-to-print spare part to replace broken or worn-out original Velux blind cord stoppers, thereby extending the life of the blind without buying a full replacement system.

3. Required Materials

3D printer (FDM)

Filament: PETG or ASA recommended (for UV and heat resistance near windows)

Small screw or pin (if needed, depending on the cord fastening)

Tools: screwdriver, pliers, utility knife (for old part removal)

4. Technical Description

File: Veluxe stopper.stl

The part is designed to fit the lower corner of a Velux blind, replacing the original cord retention block.

It has a groove or hole to hold the tension cord, keeping the fabric stretched and aligned.

Compatible with several Velux blind models using a twin-cord tension system.

Compact design to minimize visual impact and interference with blind operation.

5. Installation Instructions

Remove the broken original part, if still in place.

Thread the tension cord through the groove or hole in the new printed piece.

Use a knot or clamp to hold the cord in place if needed.

Push or screw the part back into its original position at the base of the blind fabric.

Check tension and alignment before using the blind.

6. Safety and Precautions

Use weather- and UV-resistant material (PETG, ASA, or similar) to avoid deformation from sun exposure.

Do not overtighten the cord or force the part into place – risk of damaging the fabric or rail.

Keep cords safely out of reach of small children.

7. Possible Applications

Repair of Velux roof window blinds

Custom adaptations for cord-based tensioned fabric systems

Lightweight curtain or sunshade systems with cord tensioning

8. Legal Disclaimer

9. Conclusion

This small 3D-printed Velux cord stopper is a practical and cost-effective solution to extend the life of a blind system. It restores proper function and avoids the need for full replacement kits. Ideal for DIY repairs and discreet home improvement.
