This custom hinged grill mount is designed to upgrade your solder fume extractor, making it more adjustable and precise—especially when working under a microscope or with small PCBs. It allows for flexible, stable positioning directly over your work area, improving both safety and usability.

Key Features

Binder Clip Mechanism: The design utilizes a standard 75 mm binder clip, which acts as a strong, adjustable hinge. The clip is mounted using an M6 screw, M6 nut, and spherical washers (commonly found in bicycle brake systems). This provides multi-angle adjustment, similar to the way brake pads are aligned to a rim.

Precision Adjustment: An M6 Allen key can be used to quickly adjust the angle and position of the grill, letting you place the fume extractor exactly where needed—even in tight spaces near components or under an Andonstar microscope.

Two-Part Grill Assembly:

One part holds the binder clip and spherical washers.

The second part acts as a fume collection panel which can be filled with:

Activated charcoal,

Cushioning foam,

Or even a piece of art-grade absorbent wall panel (available from art supply shops) to trap fumes.

Slip Prevention: Small corner gaps are designed into the grill frame to allow filling with hot glue or any strong polymer compound, which increases friction and prevents the extractor from slipping out of its casing during operation.
