Simagic Alpha EVO 4 Port Sabrent Hub Side Mount

Normally when I'm doing USB hubs, I prefer the bigger powered kind, but for a wheel base, USB power isn't really important, and the bulk of average peripherals you might connect are low powered as well. Sabrent makes these neat little 4 port USB 3 hubs, which are fairly cheap, and have been very reliable for me. I have used them in 3 different wheel stand builds for myself and a friend, and I really like them. I am specifically referring to the HB-UMLS & HB-UM43, which have the individual switches for each port.

This is my design in 2 variants that let you easily mount one of these hubs to the side of your Simagic Alpha EVO base; in theory anything with 50mm hole spacing for M6 bolts is going to work here.  These are specific to the right side of the base, though it would be reasonably easy to alter the design to work on the left side, the cable routing would be less optimal that way however.

I am personally using the vertical mount, so the usb cables are pointing out the back of the base, but the other variant will have them all pointing straight up.

Print it in PLA, print it in ASA or ABS; print it in PETG. Print it in whatever you have on hand. It's already oriented for printing. Slice it for 0.2 layers, ~15% gyroid infill, 4 perimeters, and 4 top and bottom solid layers.

Takes less than an hour to print one. The hub will just snap in, and it mounts with M6 bolts, M6x10 should work well, and are included with the base.

Note: there is, or was, a powered variant of this hub. I have made zero provisions for the power jack. The passive models all have the DC jack input on them, but as I've stated, you don't need a powered hub in this application typically. I run a set of Simsonn pedals, a H pattern shifter, and a handbrake all through the hub, without any power issues. Each device draws less than 500mA of power, and is perfectly fine running on the hub passively. The individual switches make it easy to turn off peripherals for whatever reason. 

Simagic makes a wonderful extension cable for the maglink kit, which is worth every penny of the $20 the kit costs. If you have one, I highly recommend you mount it to the wheel stand, and connect the hub to the extension, while using the male A side of the cable to connect to your PC via a good quality extension cable.

This hub mount is part of my designs to make the Simagic wheel base easier to move once mounted to a wheel stand. I also have a PSU mount with some basic cable management that bolts to a NLR Wheel Stand. At my desk I have a good quality USB 3 extension cable, and a C13 power cable under my desk. When I want to use my wheel, I roll the stand over and get it into position, then I just need to connect the C13 cable to the PSU, and the USB connection to the hub. All connected, and I can keep the wiring neatly managed on the wheel stand. It makes setting up and taking down my sim racing setup very easy.
