Introducing the Gimbaled Can Holder. This model is prevents spills by using 3 608zz bearings (I bought them on Aliexpress at $8 for 10). This model rotates in 2 axis preventing the nastiest of spills when travelling. V1 (handle) includes 2 prongs on the handle that limits the gimbals movement allowing you to still sip your drink. V2 (clamp) features different sized clamps instead of a handle so that the gimbal can be fitted to something like bike handlebars or rails on a boat. I have already made multiple different diameter sizes for the clamps but if you need a different size just let me know and I can make more.
Hardware:
- 3 608zz bearings
- 2 M3 bolts and nuts (only if using the clamp version)
Printing:
- 0.15mm layer height (I did this for precision on the parts that hold the bearings but if you have a well tuned printer you could probably use 0.2mm)
- 15% infill ( More personal preference but i wouldnt recommend going below 5%)
- 3 walls for strength especially on the part that actually holds the can because it is quite thin
- Support definitely required
Assembly:
- Place a bearing on each nub of part 1 then clip part 2 around and onto the two bearings.
- Next place a bearing on the nub of part 2 and glue part 3 into the hole securing the bearing in place.
- Then just push the handle or clamp onto that bearing making sure it seats properly.
- For the clamp if you are clamping it to something slippery I would use something like elastic bands or anything rubber between the clamp and the thing you are clamping it to to give you some extra grip.
If you have any suggestions on improvements feel free to let me know so that I can improve the model.
